Mkoani Tree Planting 2010
On March 18th 2010 Community Forests Pemba, the NGO I helped to found, came to Mkoani to plant trees around both Uweleni Secondary School and Ng'ombeni Primary School in order to help prevent erosion around both campuses. We planted cinnamon seedlings, lychee seedlings, and mtondoo (a hardwood native to Pemba) seedlings. By the end of the day we planted over 100 trees around the campuses.

After learning about a Pemban becoming paralyzed from the waist down after scuba diving, I decided to travel to that island to teach all of the divers about the hazards and safety precautions of scuba diving. None of them had ever learned about these issues before I went to visit them on Makoongwe Island.

Antarctica 2004-5
Photos from my second expedition to Antarctica. The expedition began in October 2004 and ended in February 2005. This expedition was an aerogeophysical survey with the University of Texas, Austin. We were using ice-penetrating radar to map the volume of Thwaites Glacier and Pine Island Glacier in West Antarctica.

Antarctica 2004
Photos from my first expedition to Antarctica at the beginning of 2004. I was an undergraduate studying geophysics at the University of California, Santa Barbara. This marine geophysical survay spanned 2 weeks during which we sailed in the Ross Sea aboard the Nathanial B. Palmer Icebreaking Research Ship mapping out sedimentary layers in order to better date tectonic events which formed Antarctica as we know it today.
